ABOUT JIMENA DE LA FRONTERA
Jimena de la Frontera is a traditional white Spanish village only thirty minutes from the coast yet retaining traditional Spanish values. It has local bars and restaurants offering a diverse choice of menus, both traditional and more international. Local facilities include banks and supermarkets and the local railway station links to Ronda and Algeciras as well as further afield.
The Rio Hozgarganta flows by the village which adjoins the Alcornocales Natural Park. The park, one of the largest national parks in Spain, is rich in wildlife and the cork oaks give it a distinctive character that includes a fertile home for wild chantarelle mushrooms.
The village is dominated by it castle which reflect is historic status. Once part of the Roman Empire, the village was subsequently a Moorish town eventually to become part of the Spanish state when the southern part of the peninsula was liberated. Close to the village there are caves where pre-historic paintings were discovered.
