Non Lucrative Visa for Non EU Citizens

The Spanish Non-Lucrative Visa (NLV) offers long-term residency for non-EU citizens who don't intend to work in Spain, often used for retirement.

Applicants need to demonstrate sufficient passive income or savings.
Examples include rental income, investment returns, pension payments, or Social Security benefits. Employment income, business earnings, and one-time payments are not accepted. Savings can be used if doubled the standard income requirement.
Owning property in Spain doesn't directly affect the application.
Health insurance meeting specific criteria is required, along with additional documents like a clean police record and medical certificate.
Living in Spain for at least 183 days annually is necessary for visa renewal and ten months per year for five years for permanent residency. Applications must be submitted to the nearest Spanish consulate.
Processing time is typically 2-3 months. Family members can be included in the application, but unmarried couples must apply separately. The Digital Nomad Visa is another option for working remotely in Spain, differing in allowing professional activity and permitting application from within Spain. Both visas lead to permanent residency and citizenship.
